Books I Have Read So Far This Year

Miscellaneous, Personal

February 21, 2018

Many of you have asked me to do a book blog, so I figured today would be a fun day for that! :) You guys have been so excited talking about reading lists and books I’ve read and books you’ve read… it’s truly been delightful talking with you all over the past few weeks! I love talking books! :)

If you follow me anywhere on social media, you know that I love reading and I love books. I set a goal to read 25 books in 2018, though I am really going to try to exceed that to get closer to 30 books, if I can. We’ll see! I like to read a mixture of novels, memoirs, business, and motivational books. I would like to read more classics and perhaps even some suspense/thrillers (NOT scary) this year too!

As of writing this blog, I have read 6 books so far this year and for the most part, I have really liked all of them! I started the year reading Entrepreneurial You by Dorie Clark. It’s a great book for entrepreneurs and I found it especially perfect timing with my coaching program launch just a few weeks later. I definitely recommend this book for my hard-working, entrepreneur friends who have big dreams!

I also read The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. She is definitely one of my favorite authors, I’ve discovered. I just love her writing style! If you love character driven books with writing that makes even the most mundane parts of everyday life come alive, Jhumpa Lahiri is your girl!

Next, I read The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. AMAZING. You all know by now that Brene Brown is my homegirl. I will always read everything she writes. I just love her! She has such simple, but profound insights into human behavior, vulnerability, shame, and so much more! Love her and love this book!

Then I read In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner. I’ve had this novel in my bookshelf for years, and honestly, I just decided to read it to get it off my shelf once and for all. I liked the movie well enough, but as far as the book goes, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I think I gave it 3 out of 5 stars on GoodReads, though that may be generous :-/

I read Grace Not Perfection by Emily Ley a week or two ago. SO GOOD. It’s a quick and easy book to read… I read it in two sittings over the weekend. It was like a breath of fresh air. That’s the best way I can describe it. I highly recommend this book!

I just finished The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah a few days ago and while there were a few things I didn’t love, I really enjoyed this book overall! I didn’t ever want to put it down!  It takes place during World War II, which is a time period that always fascinates me, so it already piqued my interest before I even knew what the book was about. I feel like I actually learned alot about that time and what it was like for the people who lived through World War II in Europe. So that was a bonus! 4 out of 5 stars for this book! I expect this to become a movie at some point. It just has that perfect movie feel to it.

And finally, I started reading The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron this week. It’s a “companion” book for the Enneagram test, which I just took yesterday.  I didn’t like the format of the official paid test I took, but we’ll see what comes of reading the book. I love any book that helps me grow as a person by understanding more about my make up, why I do the things I do, and how I can just be a better, more gracious, loving person just in general. I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts after I finish this book!

So that’s it! Those are all the books I’ve read so far this year! What books have you been reading this year? Are there any that you would recommend to me? Leave a comment below and let me know! :-D

I'd love to chat with you!
